Founder
John Guarino
John founded Alternative Capital Investments in 2019, and is responsible for capital allocation and risk management. He started his career as a trader at Goldman Sachs, before managing a proprietary long/short trading book. John then became a principle for a multi-strat fund in the public and private markets. For more than 24 years, he has built and led experienced teams across trading, analytics, and structuring, and has raised over $750MM across all deals/funds and single investments. John has been a successful portfolio manager and led negotiations across many complex private deal structures.
John has a Bachelor of Science from Villanova University and an MBA in Finance and Management from Fordham University.
Managing Partner
James Berkeley
James is Managing Partner and Head of Business Development. He has more than 30 years of experience in the investment and fixed income markets. He started his career at Merrill Lynch, initially in mortgage and asset-backed securities before managing the Foreign Bank team and building the credit derivatives business. In 2002, he moved to Citi to manage the Derivative and Structured Credit business, becoming the top salesperson globally for three years and in the top seven for 10 years straight, while generating over $1BB in revenue. He has been an active investor in the private markets for 20 years.
James received a BSE from the Wharton School of Business and holds an MBA in Finance and Real Estate from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.
